In 1955 Robert E. Hamilton opened an office for the practice of Consulting Engineering to provide the highly specialized sanitary (now called environmental) design engineering services to other engineering firms and, on a limited basis, directly to clients. Sewage treatment and water supply projects were designed throughout the states of Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. Through client demand, the area of practice was gradually expanded to cover a broader range of civil engineering. Rather than excessive staff expansion to accommodate an increasing workload, a policy of client selection and geographical limitation was initiated and continues today. It has, therefore, been possible for key personnel to maintain the intimate project involvement which we find necessary to provide excellent quality engineering services. While it is normal procedure for each project to have a contact engineer, the development of the project is accomplished through team effort. This team approach, we have found, is particularly beneficial because not only does it utilize the expertise and experience of all the staff, but it also keeps the project on schedule, even if the engineer in charge is temporarily unavailable. Our Structural Engineering services complement our multi-discipline and full service approach to include bridge and culvert design, inspection, and rehabilitation; water and wastewater structure design; building design; and construction engineering. We have the experience necessary to provide our clients with practical, cost-effective solutions to a wide-range of structural engineering challenges.
