Universal System Scaffold & Custom System/Shoring Frame Scaffold - The objective of this project was to allow quick and easy transport of construction personnel from the ground to the slip forms used on the construction of the peers. To minimize costs, the decision was made to access both the eastbound and westbound piers from one stair tower. This was accomplished by attaching the stair tower to the sky crane centered between the peers. Special gangways were installed to ramp over to each slip form. Engineering needed to account for the high wind forces imposed on both the stair tower and gangways and for the natural sway of the sky crane. Due to the extra weight caused by the sway of the sky crane a hybrid shoring/system scaffold frame was designed to increase loading ability for the lower portions of the stair towers.
