Association of Air Balance Council (AABC) - By the 1960's, the complexity of commercial HVAC systems exceeded the test and balance abilities of most HVAC contractors. As a result, testing and balancing emerged as new specialty within the HVAC industry. Recognizing this trend and the valuable role of testing and balancing in finalizing construction projects, a small group of engineers met in 1965 to discuss ways of enhancing the reputation and technical skills of TAB professionals.
To promote these objectives, this group founded the Associated Air Balance Council (AABC) to establish stringent membership requirements that ensure members' objectivity, integrity, and technical expertise. Efforts to promote state-of-the-art TAB procedures and services through technical papers and other publications lead to the development of the AABC National Standards, the industry's first comprehensive standards for field measurement and instrumentation. To this day, AABC's foremost objective is to safeguard the reputation and competence of the Council and the TAB profession.
